My little photographer

Callum is always interested in what I'm doing when I take photos. So I let him give it a try, with a little of my help- I turned the flash on for him after the first photo, and I helped him hold the camera- but he actually was looking through the camera and pushing the button to take the pictures. I was impressed.

Callum now refers to himself in the third person (I guess pronouns would be a hard concept for a two year old). He seems to say "Callum do it!" pretty often, meaning he'll do it by himself. I think I must call him "my little boy" a lot, because now he'll say to us "pick up my little boy". It's very sweet!

2 year old prayers

This happened a month or two ago, but it was too cute to not share. Callum has been learning lots of new things, like how to pray, and the ABC's. Sometimes those things can get confusing and mixed-up. So, one Sunday, we stopped to get some tacos for lunch after church at this place that we heard was really good. We decided to take them home to eat. Callum really wanted to eat them right then, in the car. As we were driving down the highway, Callum started to yell "ABC ABC ABC" and then "Amen!" and then "Tacos Please!". Apparently he thought that if he "prayed" he would get his lunch right away.

"Isla Eatin Peas" (as Callum would say)

Isla's favorite food so far seem to be peas, though avocados might be a close second. She likes the green stuff, and she loves sucking on those two fingers. They are almost always in her mouth.

She is already taking after Mama, wanting her morning coffee.

Callum has really been into his animal toys lately.

He placed each of these animals in the "correct" spot in their little "homes". He really likes these toys that Grandma and Grandpa gave to him.

Callum started sleeping in a big boy bed a few weeks ago. I wasn't sure when we were going to try to move him into one from his crib until he made it obvious it was time. He's been able to climb in and out of his crib for a little while now, and I've watched him do it a few times, and he was able to get in and out pretty well and safely. Then he learned a new technique. Juston watched him climb up on the rail of the crib and stand on it like a little tight-rope walker. That night he was in the big boy bed. He seems to really like it, he cuddles all up with a bunch of stuffed animals (who must be tucked in just so, like him). He's only fallen out twice, that I know of. He fell onto pillows I put by the bed. I found him curled up on the pillows sleeping those two times. He looks like such a big boy in his bed. I want to get a photo sometime, I'll have to try while he's napping without waking him up.

So it's been a long time...

I've decided to re-launch our blog. I've really enjoyed reading friends blogs and keeping up with them that way. So, since we are living far away from most of you, I thought this might help us all stay in touch better.
The last time I posted, Callum was younger than Isla is now! So, I think I'll start this re-launch with a bunch of photos. (in no particular order)
I hope you enjoy!

First Solid Food and New Photos

For the last two months or so, Callum has been watching with great interest as we eat. Lately he has taken to pretending to chew when he sees us chewing. So after talking with his doctor at his last appointment we decided that it was about time to introduce Callum's first solid food, rice baby cereal. Doesn't sound too exciting, but it was actually pretty good (I admit, I tasted it) and Callum loved it!

He eagerly reached for the bowl after he got his first few tastes. As soon as he finished one bite he instantly wanted another. Though about half of each bite ended up all over his stomach, diaper, chair, face, arm, hair, my arm, my hand, or his chin, rather than in his mouth.

Callum loves to suck his fingers. Between each bite, they went into his mouth. Maybe he was sucking off the cereal that he spilled on them.

He was getting pretty good with the spoon, even trying to help me out, towards the end of the bowl.

Here are a few other pictures from the last few weeks.

Callum loves to listen to Juston play his banjo (an awesome gift that Juston's brother Mason gave him). Callum will "sing" with the music, it's really funny. He successfully strummed the banjo after listening to Juston play the other day. Juston can't wait until Callum's old enough for an instrument of his own!

Callum likes playing with his soft blocks. It's fun to build towers for him to knock down.

I love this outfit, so I couldn't resist putting a photo up of him wearing it.

Little Bear

It was as I suspected. Callum's bear outfit that I knit him ended up fitting him during the spring. I've found that the sizes of baby clothes, and baby knit patterns are somewhat unpredictable. Most of the clothes that Callum wears now are at least a 6 month size, and he's only 3.5 months old. When he was born he was too little for even the newborn size. So, he's grown into and out of clothes very quickly. Even though it's 80 degrees outside I had to put Callum in this outfit for a few pictures. Maybe he'll have a little brother or sister some day who will fit in the outfit during fall or winter.

Usually Callum seems to hate the camera and will cry as soon as we "hide" behind it. I think he's learning that it's not so bad.

Work and Play

Lately Callum's been fixated with putting his fingers (or fist) into his mouth and sucking and slurping. He's also been grabbing and holding things more. So I thought he might actually hold on to some toys now, so I gave him a teething ring to try out.

He seems to think that it could be fun, if only he can figure out how to get it into his mouth!

Almost in the mouth! Licking it at least.

Ok, so he hasn't quite gotten a hang of holding on to toys yet for a longer period of time.

"Look Ma, no hands!"

Sometimes Callum likes to help out with laundry or dishes by sitting happily in his chair while I work.

But after a while he gets tired of watching me work.

Or he finds his fingers for some tasty sucking.
